Investment Strategy

The investment seeks to achieve long-term growth of capital. The fund pursues its investment objective by allocating its assets among multiple non-traditional or "alternative" investment strategies managed by the fund's Manager, and different Subadvisors. The Manager may at any time and in its sole discretion adjust the allocation of the fund's assets among the investment strategies and Subadvisors to varying degrees. Under normal market conditions, the Manager will not allocate more than 30% of the fund's assets to any one strategy with each Subadvisor.

Mona started at MacKay Shields when the firm joined with equity specialist, Cornerstone Capital Management Holdings, in January 2018. Mona joined Cornerstone in 2002 as a Portfolio Manager. Previously, she was with the Investment Consulting Group (ICG) of New York Life Investments. At ICG, Mona assisted in the development of a manager due diligence process in order to highlight portfolios with inconsistencies, researched and developed vendor selection criteria, and evaluated alternative asset-mixes for education funding plans. Before ICG, Mona was a Principal Consultant in the Financial Services Division at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she helped several companies in the financial services industry launch successful applications. In addition, she evaluated existing processes at several firms and made recommendations to improve them. She started her career as a Systems Analyst at Tata Unisys Ltd in Mumbai in 1993. Mona graduated from the University of Bombay with a degree in Computer Science Engineering and earned her MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. Biography Mr. Le Bras has been a global macro hedge fund manager at Candriam since 2011. He began his career in 1986 as a Treasurer and Proprietary Trader on Interest Rates and Forex for Caisse de Gestion Mobilière, and in 1995 moved to the Compagnie Parisienne de Réescompte as a Proprietary Trader on Interest Rates, FX and Equities. In 2004, he founded his own asset management company and managed a Discretionary Global Macro Hedge Fund. In December 2010, he joined Candriam to develop this global macro approach. Biography Mr. de Courcel has managed a portion of the Fund’s assets since January 2016. He has headed the Quantitative Global Macro strategy of Candriam since 2008. He began his career in 1998 as a Consultant Engineer and has been developing tools for managing portfolios based on behavioral finance and technical analysis since 2002. In 2005, he became a Fund Manager in Fixed Income and then Equities for Credit Agricole / BFT Gestion. In 2008, he joined Candriam to develop the Quantitative Global Macro strategy. Mr. de Courcel has engineering degrees from the Ecole Polytechnique in France and from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Telecom in Paris.

Biography Dan C. Roberts is an Executive Managing Director, Head of Global Fixed Income and its Chief Investment Officer. His responsibilities include spearheading macro-economic research, managing portfolios that utilize asset allocation, chairing GFI’s Investment Policy Committee (IPC), and serving on the firm’s Management Committee. Directing the IPC is Dan’s most important investment responsibility as this Committee is the foundation of the GFI team-based approach to managing portfolios. It sets all portfolio strategy within the context of the team’s macro view and monitors compliance with its decisions. No significant positions are taken in any portfolio without the approval of the IPC. The IPC’s voting members are GFI’s four most senior investment professionals, who have worked together for nearly two decades. Dan joined MacKay Shields in 2004 when the firm acquired the fixed income business of Pareto Partners, where he had served as Chief Investment Officer. Dan first began assembling his team in 1989, when he was appointed head of fixed income at UBS Asset Management. In 1997 the team joined Forstmann-Leff International and was subsequently purchased by Pareto Partners in 2000. Prior to UBS, Dan worked at Chase Manhattan Bank, initially as a Financial Economist before being named head of Global Interest Rate and Currency Swaps Trading. Before joining the private sector, Dan served at The White House with the President’s Council of Economic Advisors from 1981 to 1983, was the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Congress’ Joint Economic Committee from 1984 to 1985 and was an economist at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 1977 to 1978. Biography Andrew Ver Planck, CFA is the Lead Portfolio Manager for the Systematic Equity investment team. Andrew is responsible for leading all aspects of the team’s investment management capabilities, inclusive of research and portfolio management decision making. Andrew has significant experience in quantitative modeling, having initially developed and implemented the team’s US long/short equity and global stock selection models. In his role at MacKay Shields, Mr. Yoon worked side-by-side with the portfolio managers directly enhancing the risk management processes across all portfolios.
