Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.61%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB), which rose 7.71% or 0.77 points to trade at 10.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Interfor Corp (TO:IFP) added 7.24% or 0.90 points to end at 13.33 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was up 7.14% or 0.08 points to 1.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE), which fell 20.48% or 3.36 points to trade at 13.05 at the close. Bankers Petroleum Ltd . (TO:BNK) declined 5.56% or 0.060 points to end at 1.020 and Dollarama Inc (TO:DOL) was down 5.30% or 4.33 points to 77.37.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 711 to 703 and 215 ended unchanged.
Shares in Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) fell to 5-year lows; losing 20.48% or 3.36 to 13.05. Shares in Bankers Petroleum Ltd. (TO:BNK) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.56% or 0.060 to 1.020.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.63% to 20.88.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.49% or 5.30 to $1071.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.82% or 0.68 to hit $36.48 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.55% or 0.62 to trade at $39.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.39% to 0.7337, while CAD/EUR rose 0.37% to 0.6706.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.61% at 97.92.
