Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food Producers, Household Goods & Home Construction and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 3.35% or 16.70 points to trade at 514.50 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 3.02% or 59.00 points to end at 2016.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 2.78% or 19.50 points to 720.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT), which lost 3.38% or 47.00 points to trade at 1341.50 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 1.81% or 5.75 points to end at 312.10 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) shed 1.80% or 40.50 points to 2208.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 987 to 985 and 375 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.67% or 8.25 to $1244.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.44% or 0.23 to hit $52.40 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.25 to trade at $55.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.26% to 1.2540, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8537.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 100.10.
