Investing.com -- SpaceX’s Starship is scheduled to embark on a journey to Mars by the end of 2026, carrying Tesla’s humanoid bot, Optimus, according to the company’s founder, Elon Musk.
Musk revealed the plan on Friday, indicating that the first human landings on the red planet could potentially start as early as 2029, but 2031 is more probable if the initial landings are successful.
In a conference call with investors in April last year, Musk had predicted that Optimus would be operational in the factory by the end of 2024.
The Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) bot is designed to perform various tasks, furthering the company’s technological advancements.
In November, it was reported that Musk’s vision of transporting humans to Mars might gain more national attention under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Starship’s role is vital for SpaceX’s future in the satellite launch industry, a market where it currently holds a leading position with its partially reusable Falcon 9.
The upcoming Mars mission also aligns with Musk’s long-term ambition to establish a human colony on Mars.
