TORONTO, July 28 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index was barely lower in morning trade on Thursday as energy stocks mostly gained and investors reacted to a string of earnings reports.
The most influential gainers included Cenovus Energy Inc CVE.TO , which rose 4.2 percent to C$18.23 after posting a smaller-than-expected quarterly loss, and First Quantum Minerals Ltd FM.TO , which jumped 9.6 percent to C$11.40. energy group climbed 0.5 percent despite a fall in crude oil LCOc1 CLc1 , while the materials group, which includes precious and base metals miners and fertilizer companies, lost 0.3 percent.
