Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Oil & Gas Producers and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa), which rose 4.00% or 92.50 points to trade at 2408.00 at the close. Worldpay Group PLC (LON:WPG) added 3.94% or 16.40 points to end at 432.60 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) was up 3.71% or 87.50 points to 2448.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which lost 2.10% or 3.30 points to trade at 154.00 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 1.89% or 49.00 points to end at 2540.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 1.75% or 25.00 points to 1405.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1165 to 831 and 147 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.08% or 1.00 to $1295.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.57% or 0.33 to hit $57.78 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.40 to trade at $62.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.62% to 1.3234, while EUR/GBP rose 0.48% to 0.8975.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 93.07.
