(Bloomberg) -- U.S. President Donald Trump said he doesn’t know about Kim Jong Un’s health condition and may reach out to check on him.
“I wish him well, we’ve had a good relationship,” Trump said at a White House briefing on Tuesday in response to a question about the North Korean leader. “We don’t know” if the reports about Kim’s health deteriorating are true, he added.
Mystery surrounded Kim’s health following his unusual absence from recent holiday celebrations. U.S. officials said he was in critical condition after undergoing cardiovascular surgery last week, while South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s office said that Kim was conducting “normal activities” in a rural part of the country assisted by close aides and no special movements were detected.
The news around Kim’s health spurred the benchmark Kospi gauge to extend losses on Tuesday to as much as 3% while the won slid as much as 1.7% against the dollar. The Kospi closed 1% lower.
