Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Software & Computer Services and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.82% to hit a new 52-week low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which rose 16.95% or 11.6300 points to trade at 80.2500 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco PLC (LONDON:TSCO) added 3.07% or 5.1000 points to end at 171.3000 and Weir Group PLC (LONDON:WEIR) was up 2.69% or 30.00 points to 1144.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Wolseley PLC (LONDON:WOS), which fell 12.52% or 523.00 points to trade at 3656.00 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LONDON:HIK) declined 8.07% or 196.00 points to end at 2233.00 and Persimmon PLC (LONDON:PSN) was down 5.22% or 110.00 points to 1999.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1604 to 610 and 392 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.06% or 0.70 to $1131.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.00% or 0.89 to hit $45.32 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.08% or 0.98 to trade at $48.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.11% to 1.5158, while EUR/GBP rose 0.10% to 0.7418.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 96.07.
