Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Auto and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty rose 1.70%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.59%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were NMDC Ltd (NSE:NMDC), which rose 9.00% or 8.60 points to trade at 104.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) added 8.12% or 5.90 points to end at 78.60 and Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) was up 6.84% or 6.40 points to 99.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which fell 0.71% or 3.80 points to trade at 533.40 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE:SUN) declined 0.66% or 5.55 points to end at 839.05 and GAIL Ltd (NSE:GAIL) was down 0.47% or 1.40 points to 293.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which rose 7.97% to 78.60, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 6.85% to settle at 99.85 and NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which gained 5.50% to close at 120.85.
The worst performers were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 0.69% to 293.00 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 0.63% to settle at 840.00 and Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was down 0.23% to 561.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1172 to 255 and 6 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 623 rose and 130 declined, while 1 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 1.09% to 24.3000.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.12% or 1.30 to $1119.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.66% or 0.30 to hit $45.63 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.44% or 0.22 to trade at $49.30 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 66.391, while EUR/INR fell 0.36% to 73.9950.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.43% at 96.25.
