Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Optoelectronic, Other and Machinery sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 0.70%.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Nuvoton (TW:4919), which rose 9.96% or 2.70 points to trade at 29.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Ali (TW:3041) added 9.90% or 1.95 points to end at 21.65 and Promise Technology Inc (TW:3057) was up 9.87% or 1.95 points to 21.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Inventec Besta (TW:8201), which fell 9.94% or 0.99 points to trade at 8.97 at the close. Wei Chih Steel (TW:2028) declined 5.11% or 0.09 points to end at 1.67 and Twinhead Intl (TW:2364) was down 4.49% or 0.08 points to 1.70.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 581 to 259 and 8 ended unchanged.
Crude oil for March delivery was down 1.59% or 0.52 to $31.79 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 1.40% or 0.47 to hit $33.45 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.22% or 2.40 to trade at $1118.20 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.19% to 33.641, while TWD/CNY fell 0.15% to 0.1959.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 99.11.
