Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Transportation and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.93%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which rose 5.85% or 5.3000 points to trade at 95.8800 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) added 4.46% or 18.60 points to end at 435.80 and Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR) was up 4.45% or 51.00 points to 1197.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BHP Billiton PLC (L:BLT), which fell 2.38% or 20.30 points to trade at 833.20 at the close. National Grid PLC (L:NG) declined 1.46% or 13.80 points to end at 932.10 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (L:RR) was down 0.91% or 5.50 points to 601.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1376 to 678 and 468 ended unchanged.
Shares in BHP Billiton PLC (L:BLT) fell to 5-year lows; down 2.38% or 20.30 to 833.20.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.20 to $1070.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.32% or 0.57 to hit $42.47 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.59% or 0.73 to trade at $45.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.09% to 1.5114, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.7020.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 99.88.
