Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.58%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (ASX:LNG), which rose 12.02% or 0.310 points to trade at 2.890 at the close. Meanwhile, Western Areas Ltd (ASX:WSA) added 11.90% or 0.300 points to end at 2.820 and Nine Ent Fpo (ASX:NEC) was up 10.33% or 0.155 points to 1.655 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dicksmith Fpo (ASX:DSH), which fell 4.28% or 0.070 points to trade at 1.565 at the close. Veda Group Ltd (ASX:VED) declined 4.19% or 0.090 points to end at 2.060 and Navitas Ltd (ASX:NVT) was down 4.15% or 0.170 points to 3.930.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 592 to 405 and 165 ended unchanged.
Shares in Dicksmith Fpo (ASX:DSH) fell to all time lows; falling 4.28% or 0.070 to 1.565. Shares in Veda Group Ltd (ASX:VED) fell to 52-week lows; losing 4.19% or 0.090 to 2.060.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.39% to 23.345.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.64% or 7.20 to $1129.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.08% or 0.46 to hit $43.02 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.30 to trade at $47.87 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.02% to 0.7168, while AUD/JPY rose 0.09% to 86.80.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 95.72.
