Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Metals and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.62%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.56%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 1.26% or 9.50 points to trade at 763.70 at the close. Meanwhile, AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) added 0.98% or 4.35 points to end at 446.70 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 0.85% or 7.45 points to 880.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which fell 2.09% or 1.70 points to trade at 79.60 at the close. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) declined 1.93% or 6.30 points to end at 320.25 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 1.79% or 19.70 points to 1083.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 1.29% to 764.15, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 1.18% to settle at 446.65 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.75% to close at 323.20.
The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 2.09% to 79.50 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 1.67% to settle at 1083.60 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.63% to 320.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 768 to 703 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 440 fell and 347 advanced, while 18 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.81% to 14.4825.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.31% or 3.30 to $1077.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.57% or 0.20 to hit $36.02 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.17 to trade at $36.52 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.13% to 66.335, while EUR/INR rose 0.27% to 72.5140.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 98.30.
