Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.91%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 3.17% or 25.40 points to trade at 826.15 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 2.23% or 11.55 points to end at 529.45 and Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) was up 2.12% or 8.200 points to 395.900 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL), which lost 3.86% or 5.35 points to trade at 133.30 in late trade. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) declined 3.11% or 8.10 points to end at 252.70 and Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) shed 3.02% or 14.90 points to 478.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which rose 2.08% to 529.40, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.16% to settle at 838.40 and Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which gained 0.88% to close at 326.20.
The worst performers were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 4.00% to 133.20 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which lost 2.98% to settle at 479.15 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 2.86% to 252.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1137 to 337 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1199 fell and 431 advanced, while 40 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.47% to 16.2375 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.60% or 8.25 to $1364.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 4.00% or 1.58 to hit $41.09 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.76% or 1.57 to trade at $43.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 66.791, while EUR/INR fell 0.51% to 74.4590.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.52% at 95.51.
