Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK), which rose 4.05% or 66.00 points to trade at 1695.00 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 2.94% or 14.300 points to end at 500.500 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was up 2.92% or 1.6800 points to 59.2700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 5.05% or 405.00 points to trade at 7615.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 4.03% or 74.00 points to end at 1762.00 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) shed 3.96% or 8.10 points to 196.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1070 to 1018 and 471 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.12% or 15.05 to $1331.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.85% or 1.37 to hit $46.73 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.86% or 0.93 to trade at $49.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.36% to 1.3245, while EUR/GBP fell 0.74% to 0.8502.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.26% at 94.75.
