Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Banking and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.57%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 4.73% or 175.05 points to trade at 3874.35 at the close. POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) added 4.21% or 7.35 points to end at 182.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 3.56% or 41.05 points to 1194.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Limited (NS:COAL), which lost 2.52% or 8.75 points to trade at 339.05 in late trade. Larsen & Toubro Limited (NS:LART) declined 1.36% or 20.40 points to end at 1482.10 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) shed 1.35% or 1.05 points to 76.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.50% to 167.20, ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was up 2.24% to settle at 252.85 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 2.07% to close at 352.40.
The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 2.59% to 338.80 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which lost 1.29% to settle at 1482.65 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 1.08% to 365.60 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 971 to 490 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1061 rose and 552 declined, while 59 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.56% to 14.5500.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.41% or 5.50 to $1354.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.32% or 0.15 to hit $46.94 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.30% or 0.15 to trade at $49.70 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.10% to 66.826, while EUR/INR rose 0.10% to 75.6120.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 94.44.
