Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Machinery, Glass and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T:5715), which rose 7.09% or 10.0 points to trade at 151.0 at the close. Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) added 6.37% or 29.0 points to end at 484.0 and Okuma Corp. (T:6103) was up 5.50% or 41.0 points to 787.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983), which lost 12.73% or 3880.0 points to trade at 26610.0 in late trade. Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021) declined 2.72% or 76.0 points to end at 2722.0 and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) shed 0.77% or 3.7 points to 476.9.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1372 to 436 and 98 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.72% to 27.54.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was up 1.99% or 0.74 to $38.00 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 1.45% or 0.57 to hit $40.00 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.01% or 0.10 to trade at $1237.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.46% to 108.72, while EUR/JPY rose 0.39% to 123.59.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 94.61.
