Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Finance & Investment and Warehousing sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kuraray Co., Ltd. (T:3405), which rose 8.30% or 104.0 points to trade at 1357.0 at the close. NTN Corp. (T:6472) added 7.89% or 24.0 points to end at 328.0 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) was up 7.71% or 92.5 points to 1293.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002), which lost 6.92% or 65.0 points to trade at 874.0 in late trade. Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) declined 5.93% or 60.0 points to end at 952.0 and Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269) shed 5.68% or 580.0 points to 9640.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1221 to 738 and 98 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.84% to 23.58 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.20% or 0.08 to $40.91 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.05% or 0.02 to hit $43.08 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.66% or 8.95 to trade at $1355.75 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.38% to 101.63, while EUR/JPY rose 0.23% to 113.15.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.21% at 95.69.
