Investing.com -- Ottawa has introduced new legislation aiming to facilitate a smooth shift towards a clean-energy economy. This will involve the Canadian federal government devising and sharing strategies every five years to aid workers in transitioning to sustainable jobs.
The newly introduced Bill C-50, dubbed the Canadian Sustainable Jobs Act, is designed to hold the government accountable for its pledges of worker retraining and job creation as Canada pivots from its current position as a combustion-energy leader. According to estimates, this transition could result in up to 400,000 new jobs within this decade.
However, clashes are expected between Western energy-dependent provinces and Ottawa over jurisdictional issues. Alberta's Premier has expressed that her province would only offer additional funding for reducing emissions from oil and gas production if the sustainable jobs bill was scrapped by Ottawa.
