Investing.com -- Canadian Federal officials, along with their counterparts from Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta are working together to determine if OpenAI has obtained proper consent for collecting, using, and disclosing personal information belonging to residents via its AI-powered chatbot service. The announcement was made by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada on Thursday.
The investigation aims to assess if OpenAI adheres to obligations regarding openness and transparency, access, accuracy and accountability when handling data associated with ChatGPT. As this is an ongoing case, further details are limited.
However, findings from this investigation will be shared publicly once completed.
The introduction of ChatGPT has sparked intense competition among tech behemoths like Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Inc. and Meta in developing powerful AI technologies. As these advancements continue at breakneck speed across industries such as natural language processing (NLP), lawmakers around the world face challenges while deliberating regulations that govern these revolutionary new tools.
Brought forth by Microsoft-backed private company OpenAI, ChatGPT has the ability to generate a wide range of content including articles, essays, jokes, and even poetry in response to user prompts. Since its public release for free usage at the end of November, it has garnered significant attention from various sectors.
