The Week Ahead: Canada Feb GDP, Jobs; Behemoth Earnings Both Sides of The Border

Investing.com – The week ahead will be a big one for North American markets, including major economic data and key earnings on both sides of the border. 

On the economic front, GDP data is due for both Canada (Feb GDP) and the U.S. (Q1 GDP). Canadian economic data this week will also cover manufacturing sales, job vacancies, and Ontario’s provincial budget. 

Stock markets should give investors plenty of data to watch for as well, with earnings season in full swing. Major Canadian companies set to report earnings this week include Air Canada, Canadian National Railway (TSX:CNR), Canadian Pacific Railway, Fairfax Financial (TSX:FFH), Teck Resources (TSX:TECKa), and Cenovus Energy (TSX:CVE). 

The biggest earnings this week on Wall Street will include megacaps Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Amazon, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL), and Meta.

In Canada:

  • Economic Data: Canadian manufacturing sales (flash estimate); Environment and Sustainable Development Commissioner tables spring reports, including report on carbon pricing 

  • Earnings: Air Canada, Canadian National Railway, First National Financial, First Quantum Minerals (TSX:FM)

In the U.S.: 

  • Economic Data: U.S. durable goods orders, consumer confidence index, and new home sales
