Investing.com – Nigeria equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Food, Beverages & Tobacco, Insurance and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Lagos, the NSE 30 rose 1.63% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the NSE 30 were Nestle Nig (LAGOS:NESTLE), which rose 5.00% or 45.50 points to trade at 955.50 at the close. Dangsugar (LAGOS:DANGSUG) added 4.99% or 0.47 points to end at 9.88 and Nig Brew (LAGOS:NB) was up 4.74% or 7.87 points to 173.77 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Access Bank (LAGOS:ACCESS), which lost 2.37% or 0.25 points to trade at 10.30 in late trade. Uacn Prop (LAGOS:UACN) declined 1.76% or 0.30 points to end at 16.70 and Wapco (LAGOS:WAPCO) shed 1.66% or 1.01 points to 60.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 49 to 29 and 15 ended unchanged on the Lagos.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.76% or 0.37 to $49.12 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 1.04% or 0.53 to hit $51.50 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.78% or 9.75 to trade at $1259.15 a troy ounce.
EUR/NGN was up 0.70% to 369.000, while USD/NGN fell 9.93% to 315.250.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 93.81.
