Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Healthcare and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.25%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which rose 4.67% or 4.20 points to trade at 94.15 at the close. Meanwhile, TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) added 3.46% or 7.95 points to end at 237.55 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 3.43% or 30.95 points to 932.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which fell 3.47% or 11.60 points to trade at 322.75 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) declined 1.73% or 6.30 points to end at 358.80 and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) was down 1.66% or 4.45 points to 263.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 4.66% to 94.25, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (BO:REDY) which was up 3.31% to settle at 3212.80 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which gained 3.30% to close at 237.65.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 3.53% to 322.70 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 1.79% to settle at 358.70 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 1.54% to 461.65 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 837 to 626 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 467 rose and 342 declined, while 11 ended unchanged.
Shares in Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.66% or 4.45 to 263.25. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.53% or 11.80 to 322.70.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.84% to 15.6350 a new 3-months low.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.37% or 3.90 to $1069.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $41.65 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.20% or 0.09 to trade at $44.52 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.12% to 66.543, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 70.4900.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 100.05.
