Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Financials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.99%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which rose 4.88% or 0.59 points to trade at 12.67 at the close. Meanwhile, Vale SA (SA:VALE5) added 3.83% or 0.37 points to end at 10.02 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) was up 3.23% or 0.16 points to 5.11 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which fell 5.00% or 0.07 points to trade at 1.33 at the close. Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4) declined 4.84% or 0.17 points to end at 3.34 and Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) was down 4.26% or 0.80 points to 18.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 174 to 137 and 11 ended unchanged.
Shares in Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) fell to all time lows; falling 5.00% or 0.07 to 1.33. Shares in Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4) fell to all time lows; falling 4.84% or 0.17 to 3.34.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.74% to 49.42.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.48% or 5.20 to $1071.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.24% or 0.46 to hit $36.70 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.16% or 0.20 to trade at $126.33 .
USD/BRL was up 1.31% to 3.7992, while EUR/BRL rose 0.48% to 4.1550.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.64% at 97.95.
