Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 3.48% to hit a new 3-years low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (L:RRS), which rose 3.47% or 148.00 points to trade at 4416.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Sports Direct International PLC (L:SPD) added 2.31% or 9.100 points to end at 403.900 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (L:RDSa) was unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 points to 1365.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which fell 9.85% or 7.7800 points to trade at 71.2000 at the close. Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) declined 7.43% or 17.75 points to end at 221.05 and BHP Billiton PLC (L:BLT) was down 7.37% or 46.20 points to 580.90.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 2149 to 190 and 297 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) fell to 5-year lows; falling 7.43% or 17.75 to 221.05. Shares in BHP Billiton PLC (L:BLT) fell to 5-year lows; down 7.37% or 46.20 to 580.90.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.41% or 15.40 to $1104.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 5.72% or 1.69 to hit $27.88 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 4.61% or 1.32 to trade at $27.43 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.12% to 1.4177, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.7694.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 99.05.
