Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Real Estate and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.62% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB), which rose 4.09% or 31.05 points to trade at 790.60 at the close. Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML) added 3.41% or 15.30 points to end at 464.15 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was up 3.29% or 113.75 points to 3576.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 2.77% or 2.50 points to trade at 87.85 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 2.63% or 21.55 points to end at 799.35 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) shed 2.47% or 2.05 points to 81.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 4.00% to 3600.00, Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which was up 2.16% to settle at 1212.95 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.58% to close at 205.10.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 2.71% to 87.85 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 2.29% to settle at 81.20 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 1.40% to 1130.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 782 to 619 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 445 rose and 364 declined, while 27 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.20% to 17.5050 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.33% or 4.20 to $1258.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.45% or 0.53 to hit $37.03 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.69% or 0.67 to trade at $40.32 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 67.236, while EUR/INR fell 0.53% to 73.7230.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.21% at 97.36.
