Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Industrial Metals & Mining and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 5.38% or 31.50 points to trade at 617.30 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) added 3.48% or 205.00 points to end at 6095.00 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 2.98% or 39.00 points to 1349.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA), which lost 2.61% or 21.50 points to trade at 801.00 in late trade. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 2.38% or 28.00 points to end at 1151.00 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 1.97% or 14.50 points to 722.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1053 to 1018 and 452 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.76% or 9.60 to $1274.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.93% or 1.31 to hit $45.97 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.43% or 1.56 to trade at $47.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.19% to 1.4470, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.7903.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 93.73.
