Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the General Industrial, Food Producers and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 2.05% or 48.00 points to trade at 2393.00 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) added 1.69% or 5.30 points to end at 318.30 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was up 1.65% or 1.14 points to 70.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which lost 3.22% or 145.50 points to trade at 4376.50 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 2.62% or 45.00 points to end at 1676.00 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 2.26% or 12.50 points to 540.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1056 to 938 and 416 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.38% or 4.92 to $1292.58 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 4.36% or 2.10 to hit $46.09 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.43% or 1.72 to trade at $48.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.11% to 1.2927, while EUR/GBP fell 0.48% to 0.8692.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 96.78.
