Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Oi SA (SA:OIBR3), which rose 5.88% or 0.05 points to trade at 0.90 at the close. Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) added 4.12% or 0.34 points to end at 8.59 and Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) was up 2.66% or 1.05 points to 40.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3), which lost 6.09% or 1.70 points to trade at 26.20 in late trade. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 4.65% or 0.12 points to end at 2.46 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) shed 4.51% or 1.47 points to 31.16.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 179 to 134 and 21 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.02% to 40.26 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.46% or 18.25 to $1268.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.21% or 0.55 to hit $45.88 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.21% or 0.25 to trade at $121.42 .
USD/BRL was down 1.20% to 3.4864, while EUR/BRL fell 0.90% to 3.9575.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.70% at 93.72.
