Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Industrials and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.59%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Sherritt International Corporation (TO:S), which rose 16.30% or 0.22 points to trade at 1.57 at the close. Meanwhile, Trilogy Energy Corp (TO:TET) added 12.73% or 0.56 points to end at 4.96 and Calfrac Well Services Ltd . (TO:CFW) was up 10.63% or 0.61 points to 6.35 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD), which fell 3.90% or 1.180 points to trade at 29.040 at the close. CGI Group Inc (TO:GIBa) declined 3.76% or 1.89 points to end at 48.34 and Interfor Corp (TO:IFP) was down 3.13% or 0.54 points to 16.72.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 817 to 543 and 169 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.23% to 14.06.
Gold for December delivery was unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to $1096.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.81% or 0.87 to hit $48.85 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.62% or 0.33 to trade at $53.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.17% to 0.7724, while CAD/EUR rose 0.51% to 0.7031.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 97.23.
