Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.77%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 16.09% or 0.42 points to trade at 3.03 at the close. Meanwhile, HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) added 15.97% or 0.38 points to end at 2.76 and Pengrowth Energy Corporation (TO:PGF) was up 10.38% or 0.11 points to 1.17 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mullen Group Ltd . (TO:MTL), which fell 3.72% or 0.58 points to trade at 15.02 at the close. CCL Industries Inc (TO:CCLb) declined 2.17% or 4.38 points to end at 197.50 and Performance Sports Group Ltd (TO:PSG) was down 2.06% or 0.21 points to 10.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 921 to 477 and 163 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.62% to 23.05.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.18% or 2.00 to $1117.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.31% or 0.43 to hit $33.66 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 3.09% or 1.07 to trade at $35.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.24% to 0.7145, while CAD/EUR rose 1.18% to 0.6594.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.98% at 99.59.
