WARSAW, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Europe's No. 2 copper producer,
Poland's KGHM KGH.WA , has begun exploration at its potash
mining concession near the Baltic coastal town of Puck, which
could eventually lead to the construction of a mine, the company
said on Wednesday.
State-run KGHM was granted the concession last year, drawing
protests from British firm Darley Energy.
Darley Energy appealed to Poland's environment ministry last
year over the decision to deny it a permit to mine for
fertiliser ingredient potash, in favour of KGHM. ID:nL6N0TA5YT
After the appeal was rejected, Darley Energy complained to
the European Commission. ID:nL5N0W750B
KGHM said it planned to exploit the potash deposit with the
chemical group Grupa Azoty ATTP.WA and that the commodity
would be used in agricultural fertiliser production.
