Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (AX:LNG), which rose 13.10% or 0.095 points to trade at 0.820 at the close. Western Areas Ltd (AX:WSA) added 6.37% or 0.130 points to end at 2.170 and Santos Ltd (AX:STO) was up 3.60% or 0.160 points to 4.600 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Greencross Ltd (AX:GXL), which lost 8.08% or 0.645 points to trade at 7.335 in late trade. Estia Health Ltd (AX:EHE) declined 5.59% or 0.295 points to end at 4.985 and Sky Network Television Ltd. (AX:SKT) shed 3.25% or 0.140 points to 4.170.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 516 to 497 and 339 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.45% to 16.771.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.24% or 2.95 to $1244.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.14% or 0.07 to hit $49.62 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.07 to trade at $50.48 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.81% to 0.7426, while AUD/JPY rose 0.91% to 79.94.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 94.01.
