Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.57%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.61%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 1.92% or 13.80 points to trade at 731.10 at the close. Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) added 1.91% or 3.30 points to end at 175.65 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 1.39% or 9.50 points to 692.75 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 5.05% or 9.75 points to trade at 183.25 in late trade. Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) declined 3.87% or 37.45 points to end at 931.40 and Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) shed 3.27% or 12.00 points to 355.05.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 1.39% to 692.30, POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which was up 0.94% to settle at 199.40 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 0.75% to close at 1364.35.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 3.86% to 931.40 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 3.03% to settle at 340.55 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 2.92% to 464.00 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 841 to 712 and 3 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1409 rose and 1407 declined, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.43% to 11.5775.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.89% or 11.35 to $1289.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $53.09 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $55.87 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.11% to 64.455, while EUR/INR fell 0.67% to 68.5386.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 100.24.
