Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.60% to hit a new 6-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.65%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 2.93% or 2.89 points to trade at 101.48 at the close. Visa Inc (NYSE:V) added 1.71% or 1.37 points to end at 81.45 and Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) was up 1.51% or 1.47 points to 98.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which lost 2.16% or 2.37 points to trade at 107.48 in late trade. EI du Pont de Nemours and Company (NYSE:DD) declined 0.83% or 0.54 points to end at 64.70 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) shed 0.19% or 0.22 points to 116.01.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Endo International PLC (NASDAQ:ENDP) which rose 8.20% to 28.49, Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:HAS) which was up 5.79% to settle at 87.18 and Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) which gained 4.67% to close at 59.84.
The worst performers were Williams Companies Inc (NYSE:WMB) which was down 4.96% to 16.68 in late trade, Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which lost 2.79% to settle at 108.40 and Host Hotels & Resorts Inc (NYSE:HST) which was down 2.10% to 15.86 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Ideal Power Inc (NASDAQ:IPWR) which rose 32.25% to 6.11, Code Rebel Corp (NASDAQ:CDRB) which was up 30.80% to settle at 3.27 and Capstone Turbine Corp (NASDAQ:CPST) which gained 24.88% to close at 2.510.
The worst performers were Chiasma Inc (NASDAQ:CHMA) which was down 63.13% to 3.75 in late trade, Calumet Specialty Products Partners (NASDAQ:CLMT) which lost 48.39% to settle at 5.30 and Fairway Group Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:FWM) which was down 45.58% to 0.2000 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2407 to 927 and 23 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1662 rose and 882 declined, while 106 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.62% to 13.40.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.06% or 0.80 to $1233.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.72% or 0.30 to hit $41.41 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.02 to trade at $43.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.26% to 1.1313, while USD/JPY rose 0.05% to 108.83.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 94.46.
