Saving Advice - Everybody could use some extra cash in their pockets these days, but who has the time to take on a second job or take a bunch of surveys for very little payoff? As a mom and full-time employee, I certainly don’t. Thankfully, there are some seriously easy ways to make money out there. Specifically, there are a number of really great ways to make cash online in Canada. Many of these opportunities are also be available in the United States as well. So, if that interests you, read on to find out more about some ways to make money online in Canada that are a breeze.

1Q

The absolute best option if you are looking to make money with surveys is 1Q. I’ve looked at maybe 8 different survey apps and 1Q is hands down best for your time invested. It pays 25 cents per question, which is about 10 times higher than any other survey app currently on the market. It also pays you directly and immediately to your PayPal (NASDAQ:PYPL) account and they actually pay pretty well.

Authors 1Q account What You Need

1Q is a smartphone app. All you have to do is download the app, set up the account, and start answering questions to start making money. There are no additional requirements except that you need to be at least 18 years old. You’ll also need a valid email address and PayPal account. You can get it here.

Become a Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistant work is some of the most consistent “easy” money you can get. I say “easy” because there is some labor required. You have to tend to your client’s needs, but many VA jobs are flexible. That means you can work at your leisure. On top of that, they tend to pay pretty well ($15+ an hour in most cases). You can also take on temporary VA work if you aren’t ready to commit to something more serious.

For instance, when I needed some extra money, I worked through a VA agency that placed me with an attorney who needed help when he was out of town. All his calls were forwarded to my phone. I took his messages, made appointments, and was able to continue doing my regular day-to-day job. This paid about $20/hour. Best of all, once you do some VA work, you can start marketing your services to others who may be in need.

What You Need

To get started as a virtual assistant, you will probably need a laptop and a cell phone at the bare minimum. Some VA jobs will also require some experience. They’ll want to know that you have a working knowledge of Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Word or possibly social media posting, depending on their needs. Most importantly, you’ll need to have really great communication skills. This is crucial in getting someone to trust you as their virtual assistant. Upwork is a great place to find VA jobs. Check it out.

Freelance Writing

Freelance writing may seem like more of a skilled task on this list, but people are looking for matter experts to write about everything under the sun. If you’re an expert mom, there are mom blogs out there looking for people to write. If you have experience in the finance space, you might be able to make money online in Canada by writing for various personal finance blogs and websites.

My husband got his start in his career by taking on a side gig writing about cars for a few car blogs. It can really take off if you want it to, or it could just be a good way to make money on the side.

What You Need

Again, for this opportunity, you’ll likely need a laptop and probably a phone to land the deal. In most cases, the person hiring you to write will want a writing sample to verify that you can form a coherent sentence. However, you don’t always need previous experience. You can find freelance writing gigs on job boards like Indeed or through Upwork as well.

Get Paid to Shop

While you can’t do this completely online, you can get connected to opportunities to get paid to shop. Being a secret shopper is one of the most flexible and easiest ways to get paid to do this. Yes, you’ll have to leave the house, but it actually pays pretty well and you can set everything up from the comfort of your own home.

On average, secret shoppers are making between $15 and $25 per hour. Though, in some cases, you’ll only be paid in the free meal you receive if it is a restaurant assignment (but hey, food is costly these days).

What You Need

You’ll at least need to have a cellphone for this kind of opportunity to be able to sign up and receive offers. Secret shoppers are also required to be To become a secret shopper, you can sign up here.

Please keep in mind that your location does matter when it comes to signing up. Some locations may not have any shops available. If you’re located near or in a metropolitan area though, it’s a safe bet that there will be some work available as a secret shopper.

Provide Baby Sitting Services

Again, this isn’t totally online, but it can make you some good money on the side. You can also market your services online or find people in need of your services through sites like Care.com. Other great places to find potential babysitting clients include your own Facebook (NASDAQ:META) friends list or you can check out some mom groups on social media. The same goes for pet sitting if you’d prefer to take care of fur babies rather than the human kind.

What You Need

To get started with baby sitting, all you really need is a few good references. Watch a few of your friends or family’s children and have them added as references. Some parents will also want you to have CPR certifications and other qualifications, but that’s not always necessary. Then, decide on when you’ll be available (weekends, throughout the week, etc.). After that, you can start searching for work. Baby sitters and pet sitters make anywhere between $18 and $30 per hour, depending on the number of children and responsibilities.

Sell Items Online

Another thing I’ve done more recently is sell things online for extra money. Most of us (especially if you have children) have things laying around the house that you don’t use or things that have been tucked away in the corner of your closet for God knows how long.

Head to Facebook marketplace or Craigslist to sell these items! It can actually bring in a good amount of money. I sold a trash bag full of clothes my daughter can no longer wear for $30 and we got rid of our dangerous dining room table on the marketplace for $150.

What You Need

All you need to make money this way is some junk that is in good condition around your house. Most of us need to clean out our closets anyway, so why not make some extra money doing so? Then, take a few good photos of what you have to offer and post it for sale on your preferred platform. Easy as pie!

These are just six ways that you can make money online in Canada. Some of them require a little more work than others, but each one is guaranteed to be worth the money, especially if you need it.

What other ways have you been able to make money on the side? Let me know in the comments!
