Investing.com -- Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is testing a new eye-scrolling feature for its Vision Pro headset, according to a report by Bloomberg, as the company works to refine the device’s user interface ahead of its next software update. The functionality would allow users to scroll through apps and content using only their eyes, eliminating the need for additional gestures.

The feature is being developed as part of visionOS 3, the next major version of the Vision Pro’s operating system, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. Apple currently enables users to navigate the headset interface by looking at elements on the screen and selecting them with a pinching gesture.

The eye-scrolling capability builds on the headset’s existing eye-tracking hardware and software, and marks another attempt by Apple to differentiate Vision Pro through advanced input systems. The sources, who asked not to be identified, emphasized that the technology remains under wraps and could continue to evolve before public release.

Apple is expected to unveil visionOS 3 alongside updates to its iOS, iPadOS, and macOS platforms during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which begins on June 9. The software improvements are expected to make user experiences across Apple devices more streamlined.

Vision Pro launched in February 2024 at a premium price point, and while reviews praised its display technology and immersive computing, Apple is still working to define the headset’s everyday use cases. The addition of more intuitive controls like eye scrolling may help broaden its appeal beyond early adopters.
