Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Household Goods & Home Construction and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 4.15% or 27.00 points to trade at 678.00 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) added 3.73% or 6.90 points to end at 192.10 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 3.68% or 12.750 points to 359.450 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 4.65% or 36.00 points to trade at 738.50 in late trade. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) declined 3.76% or 8.00 points to end at 204.85 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) shed 2.79% or 39.00 points to 1361.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1152 to 764 and 420 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.63% or 7.35 to $1158.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.11% or 0.06 to hit $52.89 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.13% or 0.07 to trade at $55.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.05% to 1.2688, while EUR/GBP fell 0.14% to 0.8375.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 101.06.
