Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining, Energy and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.72%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Northern Property Real Estate Investment Trust (TO:NPR_u), which rose 7.32% or 1.57 points to trade at 23.03 at the close. Meanwhile, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO:RBA) added 7.01% or 2.390 points to end at 36.480 and New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD) was up 5.16% or 0.13 points to 2.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pengrowth Energy Corporation (TO:PGF), which fell 15.46% or 0.30 points to trade at 1.64 at the close. ShawCor Ltd . (TO:SCL) declined 8.86% or 2.75 points to end at 28.30 and Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW) was down 8.74% or 2.79 points to 29.12.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 774 to 552 and 189 ended unchanged.
Shares in Pengrowth Energy Corporation (TO:PGF) fell to all time lows; losing 15.46% or 0.30 to 1.64. Shares in ShawCor Ltd. (TO:SCL) fell to 3-years lows; falling 8.86% or 2.75 to 28.30.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.58% to 14.60.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.21% or 2.30 to $1092.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.91% or 0.85 to hit $43.80 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.93% or 0.95 to trade at $48.56 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.17% to 0.7615, while CAD/EUR fell 0.49% to 0.6949.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.17% at 97.70.
