Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Telecoms Services and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were JB Hi-Fi Ltd (AX:JBH), which rose 5.99% or 1.400 points to trade at 24.780 at the close. Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (AX:APT) added 5.96% or 0.850 points to end at 15.120 and A2 Milk Company Ltd (AX:A2M) was up 3.48% or 0.340 points to 10.100 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Challenger Ltd (AX:CGF), which lost 6.83% or 0.850 points to trade at 11.600 in late trade. Domino'S Pizza Enterprises Ltd (AX:DMP) declined 6.33% or 3.320 points to end at 49.100 and Cochlear Ltd (AX:COH) shed 3.90% or 7.76 points to 191.02.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 629 to 545 and 393 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.99% to 11.286.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 2.70 to $1201.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.45% or 0.30 to hit $67.50 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.20 to trade at $72.81 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.01% to 0.7271, while AUD/JPY rose 0.12% to 80.60.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 96.17.
