Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Insurance, Mining and Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 7.92% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Konami Corp. (T:9766), which fell 3.33% or 130.0 points to trade at 3775.0 at the close. Ube Industries, Ltd. (T:4208) fell 3.39% or 6.0 points to end at 171.0 and Uny Group Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:8270) was down 3.39% or 29.0 points to 826.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202), which lost 18.60% or 16.0 points to trade at 70.0 in late trade. Sharp Corp. (T:6753) declined 16.48% or 22.0 points to end at 111.5 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) shed 12.87% or 134.0 points to 907.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1986 to 9 and 4 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 17.22% to 40.71 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 4.89% or 2.45 to $47.66 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 4.85% or 2.47 to hit $48.44 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 4.82% or 60.85 to trade at $1323.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 3.35% to 102.61, while EUR/JPY fell 5.97% to 113.62.
The US Dollar Index was up 2.66% at 95.81.
