Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were CAE Inc. (TSX:CAE), which rose 5.13% or 1.55 points to trade at 31.74 at the close. Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) added 4.11% or 0.34 points to end at 8.62 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) was up 4.01% or 0.34 points to 8.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP), which lost 6.48% or 1.67 points to trade at 24.11 in late trade. Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) declined 3.56% or 0.90 points to end at 24.35 and BELLUS Health Inc. (TSX:BLU) shed 3.26% or 0.35 points to 10.37.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 556 to 430 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.89% to 12.99.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.12% or 2.25 to $1,865.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.26% or 1.01 to hit $79.13 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.14% or 0.99 to trade at $85.62 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.16% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 103.14.
