Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Industrials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Gfl Environmental Inc (TSX:GFL), which rose 7.52% or 3.44 points to trade at 49.21 at the close. TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII) added 5.73% or 7.92 points to end at 146.02 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) was up 4.76% or 0.68 points to 14.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 4.66% or 2.86 points to trade at 58.52 in late trade. Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) declined 3.92% or 0.60 points to end at 14.70 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) shed 3.61% or 0.44 points to 11.75.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 509 to 436 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.17% to 11.75.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.06% or 1.20 to $1,997.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.69% or 2.01 to hit $76.77 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.74% or 2.14 to trade at $80.36 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.47% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 101.41.
