Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Financials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI), which rose 6.82% or 1.13 points to trade at 17.69 at the close. Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) added 6.48% or 1.81 points to end at 29.73 and Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TSX:ZZZ) was up 6.13% or 1.25 points to 21.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX:AUP), which lost 6.34% or 1.25 points to trade at 18.48 in late trade. Real Matters Inc (TSX:REAL) declined 4.09% or 1.21 points to end at 28.38 and Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) shed 2.90% or 2.20 points to 73.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 629 to 419 and 136 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.75% or 14.60 to $1932.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.19% or 0.08 to hit $42.42 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.34% or 0.60 to trade at $45.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.36% to 0.7563, while CAD/EUR fell 0.31% to 0.6416.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 93.310.
