Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which rose 9.02% or 0.23 points to trade at 2.78 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) added 7.84% or 0.12 points to end at 1.65 and New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) was up 7.32% or 0.06 points to 0.88 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET), which lost 7.93% or 2.63 points to trade at 30.52 in late trade. Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) declined 7.88% or 0.19 points to end at 2.22 and Headwater Exploration Inc (TSX:HWX) shed 6.58% or 0.37 points to 5.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 603 to 387 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.72% to 20.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.92% or 15.75 to $1,728.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 6.00% or 5.21 to hit $81.67 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 5.74% or 5.33 to trade at $87.50 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR fell 0.71% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 109.52.
