Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD), which rose 12.16% or 2.11 points to trade at 19.46 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) added 7.12% or 3.16 points to end at 47.56 and CI Financial Corp (TSX:CIX) was up 6.81% or 0.88 points to 13.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG), which lost 2.84% or 0.63 points to trade at 21.56 in late trade. Uni-Select Inc. (TSX:UNS) declined 2.08% or 0.90 points to end at 42.42 and Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) shed 1.69% or 0.81 points to 47.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 772 to 233 and 89 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.40% to 17.92.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.35% or 6.30 to $1,822.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.37% or 0.29 to hit $78.67 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.26 to trade at $83.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.50% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.02% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 103.68.
