Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML), which rose 10.53% or 0.16 points to trade at 1.68 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) added 7.74% or 0.65 points to end at 9.05 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) was up 7.54% or 1.77 points to 25.23 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR), which lost 3.31% or 0.36 points to trade at 10.50 in late trade. Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) declined 2.89% or 1.38 points to end at 46.35 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) shed 2.77% or 0.47 points to 16.52.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 729 to 280 and 82 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.73% to 25.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.35% or 5.75 to $1,654.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $84.65 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.15% or 0.14 to trade at $91.77 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.21% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.06% at 112.01.
