Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX), which rose 16.47% or 0.69 points to trade at 4.88 at the close. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) added 12.36% or 0.88 points to end at 8.00 and Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) was up 11.92% or 0.41 points to 3.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:ASTL), which lost 10.03% or 1.02 points to trade at 9.15 in late trade. Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL) declined 9.97% or 0.76 points to end at 6.86 and Brookfield Infrastructure Partners LP (TSX:BIP_u) shed 2.31% or 1.18 points to 49.84.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 800 to 239 and 74 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.86% to 23.16.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.93% or 31.65 to $1,667.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 4.42% or 3.47 to hit $81.97 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 3.55% or 3.01 to trade at $87.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.73% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.65% to 0.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.19% at 112.69.
