Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 2.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS), which rose 6.87% or 0.43 points to trade at 6.69 at the close. Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) added 6.61% or 0.40 points to end at 6.45 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) was up 6.50% or 0.66 points to 10.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which lost 4.67% or 0.15 points to trade at 3.06 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 3.66% or 0.34 points to end at 8.94 and K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT) shed 3.47% or 0.26 points to 7.24.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 564 to 461 and 75 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.04% to 23.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 5.25 to $1,672.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.23% or 1.95 to hit $89.22 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.44% or 2.26 to trade at $94.71 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.46% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.26% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.75% at 112.37.
