Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Industrials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which rose 5.27% or 2.57 points to trade at 51.30 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) added 4.85% or 0.45 points to end at 9.72 and Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL) was up 4.60% or 1.17 points to 26.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI), which lost 10.42% or 0.55 points to trade at 4.73 in late trade. Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) declined 4.41% or 0.81 points to end at 17.55 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 4.41% or 0.15 points to 3.25.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 487 to 487 and 85 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.66% to 18.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.09% or 20.30 to $1,838.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.32% or 0.96 to hit $73.80 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.17% or 0.91 to trade at $78.75 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.74% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.86% at 104.92.
